Bippus State Bank Employees "Give Back" This Holiday Season

Posted on Thursday, December 3, 2015

Since 2007, Bippus State Bank employees have had the opportunity to wear jeans on Fridays for a $2 donation to their Employee Jeans Fund.  This money is then used a few times throughout the year to give back to those in the community who may be less fortunate.  With the holiday season in full swing, BSB employees are happy to be able to contribute to some very worthy causes.

Every year, Bippus State Bank has used the majority of these funds to help others during the holiday season.  Through Love INC of Huntington County, BSB employees have adopted families at Christmastime, purchasing gifts and food for these families.  This year BSB employees used their Jeans Fund to purchase toys for Love INC’s Christmas Store.  This store gives parents the opportunity to shop for and purchase toys for their own children at a low cost.  BSB employees purchased toys in seven categories: baby girl up to age 5, baby boy up to age 5, girls ages 6-12, boys ages 6-12, girls ages 13-18, boys ages 13-18, and games.  They contributed $700 in toys toward this special program.  Dawn Downs, BSB Receptionist and Jeans Fund Coordinator, says, “The joy of being able to contribute to a child’s Christmas is heartwarming.  It’s comforting to imagine the excitement these children will have on Christmas day due to programs like this, and I love that we continue to be a part of it.”  In August, $500 was also donated to Love INC’s Back-to-School fair.  This money was used to purchase a variety of boys’ and girls’ jeans for underprivileged children in the community.

A new project that BSB employees picked up this year was creating Care Packages for troops who are currently serving overseas.  Through the Employee Jeans Fund, as well as other personal donations, BSB employees gave over $400 toward these packages.  Donated items included snacks, toiletries, clothing, games, magazines, beauty products, accessories, and much more.  These Care Packages were sent to an Indiana National Guard unit stationed in Afghanistan.  Erin Carter, Marketing Officer for Bippus State Bank, says, “We are extremely grateful for the sacrifices these troops are making for our country, especially over the holidays.  It means a lot to us to be able to give something back to them to show how much they are truly appreciated.”

BSB employees have also donated a portion of this year’s funds to other local organizations.  They gave to Blessings in a Backpack to help provide food for schoolchildren over the weekends; contributed to New Life’s Meal Ministry which provides free meals to those in need, as well as to New Life’s Women’s Shelter; and Christmas gifts for children through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.  In Wabash County, BSB’s North Manchester office employees are purchasing Christmas gifts for needy families in their community.

Since it began, BSB employees have donated over $14,000 to their Jeans Fund.  Being a community bank, Bippus State Bank is proud to have employees who are community-minded and willing to help others.  Bippus State Bank was founded in 1911 and has four convenient locations in Huntington, Roanoke, and North Manchester.  BSB is Member FDIC and an Equal Housing Lender.
